Taxes Kill
Taxes on cigarettes in New York City went up from $0.08 a pack to $1.50 a pack today. That's a healthy jump! Add that to the New York State tax of $1.50 a pack. Do these high taxes encourage people to kick the habit or discourage them from starting to smoke? Probably not. But it's an easy tax to impose... the people marching in opposition to the tobacco tax usually run out of breath after three blocks. |
