Absolutely Fabulous, Darling

I bought a new sport coat from Ralph Lauren. It’s black velvet with a Mandarin collar, and has a red silk lining and silver buttons. The closest thing I can find online is this Heritage Velvet Sport Coat.

“Strike the perfect balance of elegance and casual with the subtle sheen and rich color of our velvet sport coat.”

I know it looks smashing because I’ve already had two men hit on me this morning.

Ugly: I knew you’d appreciate the perfect balance of elegant and casual [sic] (elegance and casualness?).

What are you wearing for a shirt with it? The shirt can make it or break it. This ones looks very nice, the black piping’s hot, and you wouldn’t ever have to wear a tie http://www.mensusa.com/images/image1452.jpg (click to enlarge the picture).

Tom H.: What’s a tie? :-) The one at the link is pretty nice — the button pattern is kind of neat but one has to be careful not to end up looking like a doorman. I usually wear a mauve T-shirt a la Don Johnson underneath (just kidding). I just wear normal business shirts, solid boring colors, with it.

No-shirt would be hotter, but how about a subtle black mesh top, a la Fame / Flashdance?

  8. C. Maoxian said:

Steve: I usually avoid mesh because the hair on my shoulders and back tends to crawl out. :-)

Aye. Don’t you have girlfriends who are skilled at grooming the hairy bai ren?

Steve: You mean skilled at waxing? Like Tony Soprano, I like my hairy back, fuggedaboutit.

Hair that is lost from a man’s dome always finds a new place to grow; shoulders, back, ears, etc. It’s one of the wonderful surprises of going bald.

Todd: So that odd migration doesn’t happen to those lucky bastards with full heads of hair?

Well, I’m not really in the business of tracking hair follicle migration patterns in aging men, but speaking from personal experience, I noticed a significant and marked increase of this peculiar and unwanted event just as the hair on my head was thinning.

Given this theme, I guess it would be smart to look at PG (Gillette razors & Braun shavers) from an investment standpoint.

Todd: I use a little Panasonic trimmer to beat back the nose and ear hair … a losing battle for sure.

I bought a USD9.99 battery-operated Vidal Sassoon trimmer just this week. I’ll second Todd’s anecdote re: conservation of hair, beginning around age 35 for me (just turned 38).

Chairman, I wasn’t thinking of waxing your hairy hump, but now that you mention it, would someone here with experience waxing away ear and nose hair please hold forth? ;-\

Do tell … where do you pick up a nice jacket like this in bj? I’m trying to create a sophisticated side to my wardrobe of sports gear :)

Nik: It fell off the back of a truck. ;-) (Do Australians use this expression?) I shop at Jimmy and Tommy’s in the Winterless Center (Guanghua Lu).
