AdSense or AdCents? Or, Why I’m Not Rich from Blogging

I thought it would be instructive to share a typical day’s revenue from AdSense for this site. As you can see, last Friday there were 155 “Page Impressions” with no “Clicks,” resulting in a grand total of $0.02 in “Earnings” (pre-tax). Don’t ask me how I made $0.02 when nobody clicked through.

Blogging is good fun for the unemployed, academics (who have loads of free time and free high-speed internet access), and the independently wealthy. These are the people who can afford to waste their time.

So you must be unemployed or independently wealthy?

*click* I just did my part for the day. If everyone would click on an ad(it takes like 10 seconds or so) when they visit a blog they like it would at least help pay for the cost of doing it. If adsense tells you no one clicked today you’ll know they’re screwing you.

Lol! It’s the truth. Also adsense lowers the tone of your trading blog by spruiking trading system garbage, I’m about to take it down from my site. Adsense rewards those who sell stuff and are good at SEO, kind of like the annoying T-shirt sellers who ruin your peace when you are a tourist on holiday, effective but still annoying.

thanks for the blog which I came to know thru Tom Drake’s ( twocents) blog who I have read for more than 8 yrs.

I find your blog helpful, and hope that you will continue…

I visited mainland China once last yr, Shanghai and some eastern cities. my first visit, and found the changes there very exciting, reminded me of India where I originally came from .

“AdCents” does per-impression as well as per-click advertising. So the 2 cents is from some pay-per-impression ads.

It’s all a function of traffic and ad placement. Check out the heat map that’s on the Adsense site.

Tom — Why don’t you think I’m an academic?

    Smatty — Thanks!

Andrew — I try to keep the ads fairly discreet, and the Get Rich Quick ads amuse me more than annoy me.

Piyush — Welcome. I’m glad you find the blog helpful. The changes here in mainland China have been breathtaking to say the least.

Michael — I’ve looked at the ideal ad placement spots and thought they were all too obtrusive. Now with Wordpress maybe I’ll be able to grow the traffic a bit.
