Altucher’s Sage Investment Advice
During his Wallstrip interview with lovely Lindsay, the super-nerdy (I mean that as a compliment) James Altucher gave some sage advice:
“You shouldn’t buy anything [stocks, ETFs, etc.]. You should come up with a business idea and invest in yourself. That’s better than buying an ETF and making 8% a year.”
Most kids never get this advice; instead they read these kind of 13 Steps to Being a Better Corporate Drone things.

great guy - interesting interview and we both loved the same nugget.
Unfortunately he said that calcanis gave him that tidbit and calacanis is a yutz. Successful but a yutz.

I am in love with James’ mind! I want him cloned!
LOL!
What the heck is a yutz btw? Do I have to GOOG that?

TG: Like Howard, I speak fluent Yiddish: “a hapless, clueless, annoying socially clumsy guy.” Maybe when Altucher sells Stockpickr to the schmucks at AOL for $25MM he can be as big a yutz as Calcanis.

CM: Is your business making more than 8% a year?

Tom: I believe my model agency business will deliver better than 8% a year.

I didn’t realize there’s so much profit in running an agency that builds model trains and planes. :)

There are basic arguments against this that i haven’t seen brought up.
Firstly, my father always taught me that you can only work one job at a time, but at the same time you can send your money out to work for you. While people should come up with a novel idea, at the same time, they can suppliment their income with an 8 percent return.
Secondly, not every person has acess to the capital required to start their own manufacturing, or service or sales company, but do have the minimum required to participate in market moves.

come on, somebody argue with me?

dayTraitor,
I don’t think anyone wants to argue. :)
I don’t mind discussing things, however…
Like how you can work at more than one job…
