Belle & Sebastian — Funny Little Frog
I’m a big fan of Belle & Sebastian, a group of seven misfits from Scotland. As always, if you can recommend any music in the same vein, please leave a comment.
Belle & Sebastian — Funny Little Frog (4.5MB mp3)
Funny Little Frog
Honey lovin you is the greatest thing
I get to be myself and I get to sing
I get to play at being irresponsible
I come home late at night and I love your soul
I never forget you in my prayers
I never have a bad thing to reportYou’re my picture on the wall
You’re my vision in the hall
You’re the one I’m talking to
When I get in from my work
You are my girl, and you don’t even know it
I am livin out the life of a poet
I am the jester in the ancient court
You’re the funny little frog in my throatMy eye sight’s fading, my hearing’s dim
I can’t get insured for the state I’m in
I’m a danger to myself I’ve been starting fights
At the party at the club on a Saturday night
But I don’t get disapproving from my girl
She gets all the highlights wrapped in pearls..You’re my picture on the wall
You’re my vision in the hall
You’re the one I’m talking to
When I get in from my work
You are my girl, and you don’t even know it
I am livin out the life of a poet
I am the jester in the ancient court
You’re the funny little frog in my throatI had a conversation with you at night
It’s a little one sided but that’s alright
I tell you in the kitchen about my day
You sit on the bed in the dark changing places
With the ghost that was there before you came
You’ve come to save my life againI don’t dare to touch your hand
I don’t dare to think of you
In a physical way
And I don’t know how you smell
You are the cover of my magazine
You’re my fashion tip, a living museum
I’d pay to visit you on rainy Sundays
I’ll maybe tell you all about it someday

These guys sound like Ska music. My suggestion is to check out “The Specials”. They’re defunct now but I’m sure can find their signature song, “A Message to you Rudy”, somewhere on the net.

Tom: I downloaded “A Message to you Rudy” and liked it, thanks, but I don’t see the connection to Belle & Sebastian. ;-)

Last night we saw the movie/documentary “Leonard Cohen, I’m Your Man”. I’d never been a fan a LC fan having beeen put off by his voice, but hearing his tunes sung by other folks you realize how marvelous a song writer he is. Lots of the documentary is a little much - Bono fawning, Nick Cage getting saved as a yute, but when you hear the songs, geez.

My intro to Leonard Cohen was from an album Jennifer Warnes did, but I can’t remember the title (Jenny sings Lenny? - nah, that ain’t it). I didn’t really like Lenny’s singing style but loved the writing. “Chelsea Hotel” and “Take This Longing”. Whoa!

mmmmm, Tom kicks it up a notch…lol. Here I am. in Puerto Vallarta, waiting for Hurricane John to hit. We are protected by huge 7-8,000 foot mountains here in the Bay of Banderas. The wife wants me to duct tape the windows, but I am busy surfin the net. I am going to tell her that the mountains will protect us. It has started to sprinkle rain a little. I will keep you posted. Util CM kicks me offthe blog….;). You heard it here first, from the dummie trader in Mexico. I feel as though I should be standing on the beach….

Jon, NDD: My Mom and sister both love Leonard Cohen so I was subjected to him a lot as a lad … I always thought of his stuff as “Music to Slash My Wrists To.” Now that I’m older and wiser I like Lenny.
DT: I like Townes Van Zandt, but don’t know The Flaming Lips… thanks for the recommendation.
