Instead of GLD, you should use GDX, which is made up of gold miners. GDX is a better proxy for the miners, I would think…

KS: Thanks for the tip. I did not have GDX on my master list of 295+ ETFs and I can’t find the Market Vector Gold Miner ETF homepage, but it looks like it has decent liquidity despite being so new. I’ll keep an eye on it.

The GDX represents the GDM index from Van Eck Associates
Also watching the new Ishares GSCI commodities index (GSG) for liquidity vs. Deutsche Bank’s (DBC) which is being revamped as a powershare index. GSG includes 24 commodities (energy, industrial metals, agriculture, livestock, precious metals).

Traded the GDX first time Friday… Was plenty liquid.

OST: Yes, since “KS” alerted me to the existence of GDX I’ve been watching it and will add it to my “Liquid ETF Universe” the next time I update it.
