FINVIZ is the Shiznit
Discovered a really cool site via Paul Kedrosky (Twitter) … finviz.com. Market junkies, check it out! This is exactly the kind of site I’d create if I knew a damn about programming.

Wow, that site kicks ass. So much info in one place.
I especially love the technical patterns with the pop-out charts.

Darin: Yep, it’s pretty slick, and like crack to market info junkies.

Also take a look at their comprehensive “links” section: (bottom of page)- http://finviz.com/links.ashx
And for all non (US)-native speakers I do recommend:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/ for a better understanding of our host and his friends. ;)

looks like they licensed the “Hot Map” [http://finviz.com/map.ashx?t=sec] directly from Smart Money:
Map of the Market
http://www.smartmoney.com/map-of-the-market/
probably was around mid-2002 when i first stumbled upon SM’s Hot Maps while meandering around on the web, and in the process discovered that Smart Money’s website was actually quite well-done and considerably superior and more “trader-friendly” than their magazine, which essentially caters more to the “non-professional”…
shizzle wit da hizzle dizzle (razzle razzle dazzle)…

This site is awesome, its got everything I need on one neatly packed page.

too bad only US equities so far

I wish they have relative strength rank of industries, which is just one step further (one or two database SQL procedures), then I would totally switch to Finviz!

i think its stockcharts that has sumtin similar. this is cooler though
May 14th, 2008 at 7:39 am
@j: Pleased to see they have maoxian listed under blogs in that Links section.
@v838: I think the first place I saw a heat map was at Nasdaq.com back in the day (for the Nasdaq 100).
@Anthony: Yes, but think how easy it will be for them to extend it to every equity market in the world, that’s the beauty of getting the back end right.
@Jay: Write and tell them, I’m sure they’re accessible guys who’d appreciate your suggestion.

utc+8? Chairman, you in Beijing or Shanghai? feel the quake?
May 14th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Brilliant. That one is BOOOKMAAARKED.
May 14th, 2008 at 10:51 am
@Jay: I’m in Beijing and yes, I did feel the quake (more of a tremor here, 1000 miles from the epicenter) Twittered event in near real-time (Twitter is a kind of global instant messenger).

i think trader mike spotted this a while back and now I am seeing it from you too so I will spend some time.
thx
May 14th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
hopr you are well btw
May 14th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I’ve had this for a while now, and assumed I was hipped to it here :)
May 14th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
@howard: It must be pretty new because I didn’t see it mentioned anywhere before I saw pKedrosky’s tweet.
May 14th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
neat stuff, thanks, c!
oh, btw, if you get a chance when you’re back in the states in a year or two, see if your young’un wants to watch on pbs cyberchase or fetch with ruff ruffman. i know you’re not big on the boob tube, but they’re both really good shows, educational and all that; wiki ‘em for more info…

@j: Thanks, I must have missed it when Mike posted it… interestingly, uglychart.com was the first to delicious finviz *months* ago.
@bob: I’ll keep an eye out for the shows you mention but you’re right, I’m super strict about the boob tube. :)
May 14th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Chairman, just type “FINVIZ” in your Google searchbar, and watch which financial blog appears first.
May 15th, 2008 at 5:19 am
Like Howard said, I posted about it April 1st (http://tradermike.net/2008/04/april_1_2008_stock_market_recap/) and could I swear that you posted it in your links as well back then.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:06 am
@j: The Kirkster comes up first followed by TraderMike and there comes old Maoxian limping along in third. :) (I don’t read Kirk nowadays because he doesn’t provide a full-text feed and I never travel to individual websites anymore.)
@Mike: You know, I have a vague memory of that myself but I don’t see it in my delicious from the days of yore.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:30 am
@CM: Depending on your feed reader, you can obtain full text feeds from partial feeds. I’m on a Mac and my Mail client has that capability( I can read full text posts from Kirk’s website).
Best wishes to you and everyone in China right now :>)
May 15th, 2008 at 11:36 am
amir: I’m not going to make any effort … if you’re so dumb (or vain or whatever) that you don’t provide a full-text feed, then I’m not going to read you (guys at Bespoke should take note!). Partial feeds make sense for places like the NYTimes and Bloomberg and other MSM that generate dozens of headlines a day, but if you’re a blogger writing just one or two posts a day, you MUST have a full-text feed, NO EXCEPTIONS!
May 15th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Sorry, intended to boost your ego even further;…when I searched “FINVIZ” through google.com two days ago your blog appeared first. If I search it right now, you are still second after Kirk.
May 15th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
j.: I’m crushed. :-) I am pleased to report that maoxian is still #1 when one searches for bowel movement record.
