Flight 93
I watched Flight 93 last night. I was very tense watching it… it’s painful to bring back those memories. But the movie is well done, not over the top, not sensationalistic or propagandistic. I’d recommend it to people who have the strength to see it.

I wonder how this compares with United 93 - have you seen it?

I’ve resisted the idea of seeing it so far, not only because it would be painful, but because, if I’m not mistaken, the entire plot is speculation. Too much fodder for emotional manipulation there. . .

Ugly: I think it’s marketed as “Flight 93″ in overseas markets instead of “United 93.”
jpmist: Yes, true, but I think they scripted the phone conversations word for word with the real ones, got the timeline correct, etc.

Okay, imdb.com is also listing a “Flight 93” made-for-TV movie (which is what I thought you were talking about).

Don’t want to watch this one. Just saw an ad about a movie called World Trade Center, starring Nicolas Cage, which will open on Aug. 9th. Just watching the promotional trailer brought tears to my eyes.

I don’t want to bum anyone out, but I am so tired of hearing “it’s too soon” in relationship to “United 93″. It’s a great movie, free of politics and did not attempt to place blame on individuals or institutions, other than the terrorists.
Most of the film deals with the confusion of FAA, air traffic control, and the military. The head of the FAA plays himself and it was his first day on the job.
We have no idea how events evolved on 93 but the film depicts a group of passengers doing what they knew they had to do, and I didn’t feel any individual passengers were portrayed as Bruce Willis-type heroes. It was well done.
I love the blog. Very interesting.
