One Trading Idea for Thursday, December 20
The box came up with one idea, long a “managed care” company, for Thursday, December 20. I’d be happy if it came up with just one or two ideas a day, otherwise tracking things gets a little overwhelming.
I’ll send the idea out this afternoon (my time), so if you email me to join the list before 5 AM (eastern time), you should get Thursday’s idea.

i love quotetracker. been using it for years, charts anything your account can chart - i’ve noticed high probability trading uses quotetracker for his charts. the perfect supplement for any trader, for those who can’t afford bloomberg ;-). i have an old datek account i’ve never opened, but i still use the ameritrade streamer just in case my broker’s going down, and to confirm quotes. free, but if you subscribe, super cheap. i think $100 for a year, i could be wrong. and now with streaming options with ameritrade…….great software.

chad: I’ve never used it but isn’t there an issue about limited intraday charting (only X days of intraday data available?) Ah, the old Streamer, that brings back memories of the Datek days… they had a lot of lovely little java applets running off the ISLD data back in the day, most of them discarded or lost now alas. GR8Trade used to have an applet called “Eyes” that was a simple new high/new low screen, but the nice thing about it was it recorded number of “instances” of hitting new highs intraday — beautiful, extremely useful, and simple thing now lost I believe. (Nostalgic musings end.)

yes, only 10 days of intraday data, with the subscription, 2 days on the free side - don’t know anymore…been a subscriber for a while.

chad: Hmm, is ten days enough? Can you instantly switch to the daily chart for a longer-term perspective?

I’ve used QT for a couple of years now, it’s a great program. The 10 days doesn’t bother me - why would you really need more days of intra-day charts anyway? To look at the bigger picture, I just check out the daily (right click and you’re there).
QT can do pretty much everything you want and more. Mind you, I don’t need gazillions of indicators and the like. My first broker was Ameritrade and I got used to their charts (black background, relatively thin candles), despite many obvious limitations . Later switched to CyberTrader and even though their charts were much more sophisticated in most respects, you couldn’t alter the candle width (they were fatter). Never fully got used to this. Sounds silly, but it made a difference to my trading. QT is absurdly customisable - once I switched, I could replicate my old look whilst availing of all the new bells and whistles. Many people assume QT is limited because of the price but it’s top notch.

If intraday charting is important, the best “free” option I know of is thinkorswim’s implementation of Prophet. 60 days of intraday data for U.S. stocks and options, currencies, and several futures.

I use QT with IB for equities and TOS for options trades.
