One Trading Idea for Wednesday, January 23

The box came up with one long idea for Wednesday, January 23. Yesterday’s long would have triggered and filled, which is unfortunate because it immediately traded lower and looks like it will stop out given the Apple news. If it does stop out it will be the thirteenth loss on a long position this month — how’s that for a selling point! Aren’t you anxious to send me $20 a month for these great ideas! :-)

On a happier note, LINTA went to another all-time low and you should look to trail the buy-to-cover stop above 14.22. This trade has locked in nearly 13R which means that it alone would be able to wipe out *weeks* of bad trades.

I forgot to break the list of names into blocks of 500 yesterday so Google Mail identified me as a “spammer” and put the smackdown on my mail account. I expect them to lift it today, but if they don’t I will send the ideas from an alternate email address and everyone should receive them.

Consider using a mail list manager.

Tom: I have no idea what that is, gotta link? Gmail allows only 100 recipients in one mailing if you’re doing POP3 and 500 in one mailing if you’re using their web interface.

CM, not to be obnoxious but merely to point out something you may not be aware of, but, gmail addresses are regarded in some circles as a marker for gullible naivite.

It’s a serious security breach, if you’re at all concerned about privacy. It could be a roadblock with some potential customers.

Maybe something more generic : http://mail-us.gmx.com

Donk: Using Gmail means you’re gullible and naive? Why? I don’t get it.

    Don’t send e-mails to @gmail.com addresses

This may seem unrelated but it’s actually the core of the privacy problem http://www.orgnet.com/email.html

If you’ve ever studied or worked in data mining then you probably understand the dangers inherent in the application of the technology.

So what happens in 5 years and GOOG’s one trick pony cash machine starts drying up (assuming they already bled the adsense people dry)? Hungry internet company with a boatload of behavioral data and user profiles? Did they get your name, address, age etc. What happens if Equifax bought the data? Do you follow me here?

Just as bad, social networks like Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn are a control freaks dream. You’d have to be insane to post your details in such a public manner.

Donk: Seems like you’re fighting an uphill battle there … probably around half of the recipients of the trading ideas have Gmail addresses themselves, and I’m sending them from Gmail. :)

The only way you’re going to be able to safeguard your privacy is to go off the grid altogether … you’re either on or off, there on no half measures it seems to me.

I’m always the voice from the wilderness. I thought it fair to point out to you that as a business address it might be wise to go more generic.

I’ve sat around the table with Google people and Yahoo people etc. Ordinary mortals would literally change before your eyes in the presence of Google employees. Starry eyed and hypnotized…”Google can do no wrong, Google can do no wrong, Google is not evil…” It was like Xenu had empowered the Googlers with special brainwashing powers or some shit.

Anyway, history teaches that it probably won’t end well for the hypnotized mortals. ;)

Donk: Yes, but I expect that once I start charging, the number of subscribers will be very manageable (a dozen maybe) and I’ll use my generic chairman@maoxian address to send the ideas out.
