Rufiyaa Times for the US Dollar
Dollar’s Demise Can Be Seen Even in the Maldives, by William Pesek
“These things start out slowly, and in recent months I have had similar experiences [of merchants refusing payment in dollars] from Mexico to Vietnam. In markets, restaurants, taxis and tourist shops that long accepted dollars, many are opting for local currency.”
One look at the ten-year weekly chart of the US Trade Weighted (Major Currency) Dollar Index explains why these small merchants are no fools. This Dollar Index has fallen 35% since January 2002.
(Do you guys like these pop-out charts or do you find them annoying? Keep ‘em or dump ‘em?)

Fun project: is there any currency that isn’t going up v. the dollar? When even the Brazilian Real is scoring on you, you know it’s time to call it a day.

Like the pop-outs too. But the stuff in the right column overlays the expanded chart on my screen.

dont like the pop-outs, maybe you can change it so when you click on it you can load the larger chart

Sentiment seems split on the pop-out charts so I’ll keep them for a bit and also have the “click to enlarge” option available.

I like the pop outs, but would you PLEASE put candles on the charts…..line charts are less telling.

dayo: Yes, I prefer candles too and can’t remember why that one defaulted to a line chart.

Aboslutely HATE the popouts. So annoying. If someone cant read a standard sized chart they need their eyesight checked.

Rod: Yes, I agree (if you don’t have a monster monitor) and will always use the “click to enlarge” link for the big version from now on.
