Stock Du Jour (CROX) & Random Observations

Mixed day with some pretty hard selling in the last half hour — good day for day traders to break even.

Notable New Lows: US Airways (LCC), Meritage Homes (MTH), BigBand Networks (BBND), McClatchy (MNI), Ballard Power (BLDP), Net.B@nk (NTBK) — now $0.22, and Kong Zhong (KONG).

Notable New Highs: Crocs (CROX) — Ugly says $100 is a “sure bet” which always makes me uneasy, but he’s probably right; Teck Cominco (TCK), BHP Billiton (BHP), Fannie Mae (FNM), Taser (TASR), and Morgan Stanley (MS).

I guess I’ll feature the weekly chart for CROX. I remember how skeptical people were of Crocs (”ugly plastic shoes”) when Wallstrip featured them last November — should have clued me in to how much farther this “fad” had to run. Full Disclosure: I am wearing a very ugly pair of plastic shoes as I write this.

there is a method to our madness.

People dont get how the world has shrunk and how brands like hansens and crox can explode. Overvalued sure, but growing so fast and executing so well that calling a top is suckers work.

It will end but who knows when. I would not do a wallstrip show here and do not own the stock anymore. wish i did.

Howard: Crocs just opened a shop in Beijing — if everyone in China bought a pair… may still be some “upside” (as the nitwits on TV say). ;-)

My wife bought a pair of Crocs. The top is in. :)

  4. C. Maoxian said:

Tom: No, the top will be in when her nerdy engineer husband gets a pair. ;-)

i cant laugh because I dont own the stock. The old me would be short though so I can smile and say I own apple and chipotles.

Crox management deserves a freaking metal for execution.

[…] CROX is a real world example of a BRAND GONE WILD. I obviously love the Chairman talking CROX tonight which put me in the mood for this post . He says they just opened a store in Beijing. This shit could not happen this fast just 10 years ago. You can’t value CROX, much like you can’t value Apple and RIMM these days. Too much open field and products that are changing fashion, and technology. […]

When I visit my sister and see my nieces, all I see is double-digit number of kids running around with Croxs on their little feet. Why my 2-year-old niece has them, I don’t know why. She wears them everywhere though. I wonder if people where this skeptic with Nike. I still think that Croxs need to merge with someone. Of course high heels and flip-flops probably weren’t supposed to last but they did.

Hans needs their new Monster Java to become a big hit.
Check out Danny’s weekend video that he made for The Fly’s blogspot.

I hate those shoes. I will never buy a pair…… Are they really that comfortable? Do they come in mauve?

  9. C. Maoxian said:

Zoomie: What’s mauve? Yeah, they’re very comfortable… they’re like ultra-light Birkenstocks, and you recall how wearing Birkenstocks used to make the girls beat down your door. ;-)

  10. Tom said:

CM: Well I’m gonna short the stock and buy a pair!!! :)

As a CROX long, I have to chime in. ;)

I simply adore their new flip-flops!

And btw, how come no one is talking about the Crocs rx? They are rec’d by doctors for people with Diabetes! http://www.crocsrx.com/home

And no one seems to know about their “restaurant” line of CROX.

How about the upcoming NFL and NHL CROX?

    hmmmm…

I say to Tom above… you sure you still want to short my CROX?

    ;)

TG: I’m a nerdy engineer, which by definition is a trend killer. Case in point, I wear Brikenstocks with white socks. :)

  13. Zoomie said:

CM: Mauve is purple. I need that colour to match my motorcycle.
TG: Perhaps they should have promoted Crocs through multi-level marketing. I can hear the proclamations now!

  14. C. Maoxian said:

Zoomie: So you know what mauve is while accusing me of being a metro? Puhleeze. ;-)

  15. bob said:

oh, i’d love to short your crox….

except there’s too many bloody shorts in it already who have to prove they can lose lots of money before they cover.

    THEN, i’ll short.

but, yeah, i know a ton of ppl who love them. maybe i’ll take a look at them if they come out with a pair of hightops or something.

  16. C. Maoxian said:

bob: Hightop Crocs, now there’s something they haven’t thought of yet. ;-)

    Hi,

I’ve been long Crox since the $50’s. Just let it go. Where it ends up no-one knows. I HOPE $150+…maybe..maybe not. but I intend to give it a lot of slack and hope for huge gains here. Reminds me of HANS.

I have seen the incriminating photos of maoxian’s crox
clad feet. Aah, a skeleton in the closet.

  19. Born2Code said:

i am in the middle east visiting family… a day before we boarded the plane my wife went and bought a dozen pairs of crox, one each for us and the kids and 8 as gifts to extended family…
i do not know about the stock but the business definitely has plenty of upside… people are just getting to know the shoes here and they retail for over twice as much as they do in the USA.

I bought them initially because my ankles hurt after playing racquetball and a friend recommended them. I cannot live without them any more.
