ucla: I do like beef and will look into chun xia qiu dong, but I’m getting pretty hotpotted out these days — too much of a good thing. My date did say that the prices at Ding Ding Xiang had gone up dramatically, but it was my first time so I didn’t know. I thought 300 kuai for a simple hotpot for two was a rip-off; I’m used to paying 100 kuai at xiabu xiabu.
It seems that girls all over Asia are the same on this - crazy about hotpot. The only ones I like are those with either tom yum or Sichuan soup base. The hotpot variations like half/half on the soup base or with a bbq ring around the pot are also not too bad.
eyal: I got the pork broth at DDX and it was pretty good … I suggested the Tom Yum to my date which she wrinkled her nose about; she’s a real Beijinger so that’s to be expected.

On the table. That’s either a poo poo platter or the Stanley Cup.

I thought it’s chocalate fountain at first glance…..then see the manu on the table (right? in restaurant ?)
so it must be the small Hotpot.

Yang: That’s not a menu, it’s a plate. The menu at Ding Ding Xiang weighs about 40 pounds (I can’t stand big menus).
