Conspicuous by His Absence
It’s worth noting that the “Hymn to the Motherland” sung (er, lip-synched) at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics was abbreviated, in part cutting out this key stanza:
ä¸Åæâ¹å¤ªé˳ï¼Åæ£åŨåÂâ¡Ã¨ÂµÂ·Ã¯Â¼Å
The sun is rising in the East,
人æ°âÃ¥â¦Â±Ã¥âÅÃ¥âºÂ½Ã¦Â£åŨæËÂéâ¢Â¿Ã¯Â¼âº
The People’s Republic is growing up,
æËâ们é¢â è¢âæ¯âºÃ¦Â³Â½Ã¤Â¸Åï¼Å
Our leader Mao Zedong,
æÅâ¡Ã¥Â¼â¢Ã§Ââ¬Ã¥â°Âè¿âºÃ§Å¡âæâ¹åÂâãâ¬â
Is guiding the way forward.
æËâ们çšâçâŸæ´»å¤©å¤©åÂâ上ï¼Å
Our life is getting better every day,
æËâ们çšâÃ¥â°Âéâ¬âä¸â¡Ã¤Â¸ËÃ¥â¦â°Ã¨Å âãâ¬â
Our future is forever bright.
This line was also not included:
è°Âæâ¢Â¢Ã¤Â¾ÂµÃ§Å ¯æËâ们就å«ä»âæ»亡ï¼Â
Who invades us will be killed!
If anyone can improve on my rough translation, please leave a comment and I’ll update the post later.
