In Persian. 92 minute running time. I loved Close-Up so I thought I’d give another Kiarostami movie a try, and John Farr reco’d Shirin, and I’m glad he did since I also LOVED this movie. Kiarostami is a clever guy with interesting ideas… [SPOILERS] he took 100+ stunningly beautiful Iranian actresses and filmed them each for five minutes while giving them emotional cues, then he cobbled it all together pretending that they’re watching a movie based on some ancient Persian poem, and it’s just fascinating and ingenious. This is a green-go recommended movie.
I didn’t realize how beautiful the women are in Iran, but it makes sense because of the Silk Road and all the Occidental / Oriental mixed marriages … just draw-dropping, gorgeous ladies.
