119 minute running time so at least a half hour too long … story was a bit of a mess, convoluted, separate storyline for comic relief but it doesn’t really work … beautiful vistas though (obviously not Texas, but Monument Valley) and old Marion Morrison was a unique character with his walk and his talk, he’s enjoyable to watch … but I’m not sure why this is a classic (Farr: “[an] exquisite, multi-layered Western, perhaps the most accomplished film in John Ford's oeuvre.” Oh, spare me, John). It doesn’t get a recommendation from me, the story isn’t tight enough, and it’s too long.
